Curiosity rover spots mysterious honeycomb-like fractures on Mars

NASA's Curiosity rover captured images of mysterious honeycomb-like polygonal fractures in a valley on Mars called Valle Grande on June 19 and 20 — the 4,930th and 4,931st Martian days of its mission. The geometric patterns measure roughly 4 to 8 centimetres across and surprised scientists despite Curiosity having seen other geometric shapes on Mars before. Project scientist Ashwin Vasavada of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said "this sea of polygons took our breath away."
