Wildfires near Athens burn 14,000 ha — is Greece safe for tourists?
A wildfire in western Attica, roughly 50–60 km from central Athens, has burned more than 14,000 hectares of forests and farmland. Greek firefighters reported improved conditions on Wednesday as weakening winds allowed better containment, but very high fire risk remains in the Athens region. Tourists have been evacuated from some beaches, and authorities continue firefighting and monitoring operations. The threat is localised and does not affect all of Greece.
