13-year-old dies within minutes of box jellyfish sting in Thailand
A 13-year-old boy died on 1 August 2026 at Ban Fai Tha beach in the Sichon district of Thailand's Nakhon Si Thammarat province after being stung by a box jellyfish while swimming with friends. Witnesses spotted three or four jellyfish near the boy, who had sting marks on his chest, arms and neck. He lost consciousness in the water within minutes. Box jellyfish are among the most venomous marine creatures in the Indo-Pacific.
