Hiroshima survivors warn Japan's military buildup risks its pacifist legacy

On the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, survivors known as hibakusha and activists warned that Japan's military expansion risks eroding the country's longstanding pacifist commitment. Japan has been increasing defence spending and expanding military capabilities, alarming those with first-hand experience of nuclear weapons. Interviewees told DW the shift could mark a point of no return for Japan's post-war identity.
