Poland to restrict selected procedures to specialist hospitals from October

From 1 October, Poland's National Health Fund (NFZ) will restrict selected medical procedures to specialist hospitals only, aiming to curb the practice of so-called "suitcase doctors" – physicians who travel between facilities – and improve patient safety. Dr Iwona Kania of the Supreme Medical Council warns that in the worst case, the biggest hospitals could quickly become overwhelmed by a surge of patients redirected from smaller centres.
