China's new Ethnic Unity Law raises fears of cultural erosion in Tibet
China implemented a new Ethnic Unity Law in July, designed to strengthen patriotism across all regions, including those home to non-Han ethnic minorities. In Tibet, Mandarin has become increasingly prominent alongside growing Han Chinese settlement. Beijing says the law will improve national integration, but Tibetan activists see it as another attempt to erase local cultural identity.
