Europe has warmed by 2.4°C — heating twice as fast as the global average

Over the past 30 years (1996–2025) Europe's temperature has risen at roughly 0.56°C per decade, compared with the global average of about 0.27°C. The continent is now approximately 2.4–2.5°C warmer than pre-industrial levels, while global warming stands at around 1.4°C. Researchers identify four key mechanisms behind the trend, including interactions between land, atmosphere and the neighbouring Arctic.
