NASA's Roman telescope will hunt dark energy — and killer asteroids

NASA is set to launch the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope from Kennedy Space Center in late August. Equipped with a 300-megapixel wide-field infrared camera — with a field of view 100 times larger than Hubble — Roman will probe dark matter and dark energy. In September, a multi-institutional team will detail how the telescope can also scan near-Earth asteroids, assessing their trajectories, sizes and compositions as a planetary defence tool.
