Tiny Amazon patch may harbour 40,000 insect species — many new to science

A new study published in Nature suggests that a single small patch of Amazon rainforest could harbour as many as 40,000 insect species. A large-scale megaproject spanning hundreds of sites is systematically cataloguing Amazon insects from the forest floor to the canopy, uncovering numerous species previously unknown to science.
