Engineered yeast produces cancer drug precursor, sparing an endangered flower
Scientists have engineered baker's yeast to produce a precursor for a cancer drug that is normally derived from an endangered plant species and its relatives. The biotechnological approach could eliminate the need to harvest the compound from wild flora. The findings were published in the journal Nature.
