India moves to charge businesses for UPI payments — end of zero-fee era?

India is working on legislation that would lay the groundwork for potentially charging businesses to accept payments via the UPI instant payments network. Since 2020, merchants have paid no fees to accept UPI payments under a zero-merchant-discount-rate regime.
