ECFR expert: migration pressure is a weapon third countries use against the EU
Maria Simeonova, director of the Sofia office of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), argues that migration pressure on Europe is being deliberately used as a weapon by third countries seeking to harm the EU or extract concessions. She says the EU should treat migration as a security issue, not merely a humanitarian one. Such instrumentalisation of migration is increasingly prominent in European policy debate.
