Cholesterol-cleaning procedure also removes microplastics and PFAS — scientists unsure why
Scientists have found that lipid apheresis — a blood-cleansing procedure used to reduce cholesterol — also lowers levels of PFAS "forever chemicals" and microplastics in patients' blood. The mechanism behind this effect is not yet understood and requires further investigation. It is the first indication that an existing medical procedure may reduce these pollutants in the human body.
