Record drought and heatwave push Eastern Europe toward energy emergency

Record low water levels on the Danube River and an extreme heatwave are forcing Central and Eastern European governments to take emergency energy-conservation measures. In Hungary, the country's sole nuclear power plant — which supplies electricity to half the nation — is being shut down because there is not enough water to cool its reactors.
