Cuba hit by sixth nationwide blackout of the year — residents bang pots in protest

On August 3, Cubans stood on their balconies banging pots and pans in frustration after the sixth nationwide power outage of the year. The national grid had begun restoring electricity when adverse weather caused a second collapse the same day. Repeated blackouts are spoiling food, depleting treated drinking water supplies and disrupting public services across the island.
