EU wants 50% electricity by 2040 — experts say it's near-impossible
The European Commission is proposing that nearly half of all energy consumed in the EU come from electricity by 2040. The plan would require massive rollout of electric vehicles, heat pumps and energy storage, sharply cutting fossil fuel imports. While the direction is seen as correct, analysts consider achieving the target within that timeframe to be practically impossible.
