Lost forest of giants found in Taiwan — 84-metre tree is East Asia's tallest

Researchers exploring Taiwan's steep, remote mountains discovered extraordinary forests sheltering hundreds of giant Taiwania firs. Using LiDAR mapping and citizen-science sleuthing, they found a tree measuring 84.1 metres — the tallest known in East Asia. Dense groves dubbed "temples of giants" house dozens of enormous trees side by side, and the ancient forests rank among the world's most carbon-rich ecosystems.
