Hybrid sales hit a new record for July, thanks in large part to the CR-V.
Prelude surpassed its sales goal as 354 coupes were sold last month.
As the war in Iran continues to drag on with no end in sight, gas prices have remained elevated. The national average is $4.10 per gallon and that’s up 95 cents from a year ago. However, prices vary greatly by location and Californians are shelling out an average of $5.66.

Given this, it’s not surprising to learn Honda broke a new record for hybrid sales in July. Americans bought 36,609 of them last month and 54% of CR-Vs sold were hybrid. The Accord Hybrid had a sales mix of 41%, while the Civic Hybrid followed at 32%.

Jumping deeper into the numbers, CR-V Hybrid sales hit 20,710 units for an 18.4% increase from a year ago. Accord Hybrid sales climbed 28.7%, while the Civic Hybrid – surprisingly – dropped 6.8%.

On the topic of hybrids, the Prelude racked up 354 sales. The company noted that was enough to push the coupe “over its sales goal” and it brings the year-to-date total to 2,077 units.
Speaking of eco-friendly models, passenger car sales jumped 35.7% to 43,604 units. The Accord soared 54.7% and topped 20,000 units in July for the first time since 2019. Likewise, the Civic was up 20.7% and had its best July since 2021.
The real star was the CR-V, which found 38,335 takers. This was an increase of 18.8% and the model remains the best-selling crossover in America. The HR-V generated 13,539 sales, while the Pilot found 10,125 buyers.
More notably, Passport sales were up 18.5% to 5,641 units. That’s a relatively small number, but over 80% of customers opted for a pricey TrailSport trim that begins at $48,650.

As for the losers, the outgoing Prelude crashed 75.4% as dealers only sold 1,554 electric crossovers last month. The Ridgeline was down 8.5%, but Honda recently confirmed plans for an all-new model with a more truck-like design .
Acura Sales Jump 18.9%
On the luxury side of the equation, Acura had a good month as MDX sales were up 60.8% to 4,786 units. The entry-level ADX also continues to be popular as the model received a 28.3% boost. Even the Integra performed well as the hatch saw a 68.8% increase to 2,370 units.
The only sore spot was the RDX, which was down 4.2% to 1,891 units. However, that model is about to be phased out and not replaced for a “couple of years.” When it returns, it will become the “first Acura to feature our two-motor hybrid-electric system.”

American Honda’s Vice President of Auto Sales, Lance Woelfer, said “By maintaining our commitment to a balanced lineup of passenger cars and light trucks, Honda and Acura customers are able to find affordable products that meet their needs as market conditions change. Our Honda hybrid models also have been a big hit, bringing in a record number of buyers looking for vehicles with high fuel economy that are still fun-to-drive.”
