NHTSA probe: Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines pose unreasonable safety risk

The NHTSA has found that Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines pose an "unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety." The timing belt can degrade and shed debris that clogs the oil pump pick-up screen, starving the engine of oil — often with little or no warning to the driver. The probe focuses on the risk of sudden engine failure.
