T-Mobile shuts down 2G network for good, ending a cellular era
T-Mobile has officially shut down its 2G network in the United States, following the previously announced termination date of August 3. The carrier had given legacy users advance warning, and had already ended 3G support years earlier. The 2G standard, which emerged in the 1990s and transformed mobile communications, had been kept alive for a handful of niche use cases.
