China accuses US of AI theft while doing the same — "distillation" row escalates

Beijing is accusing American companies of training their AI systems using outputs from Chinese models — a practice known as distillation — while simultaneously being accused of doing the same with Western AI models. The dispute over AI distillation is becoming another front in the US-China technology war. China is also charging Washington with applying double standards.
