EU calls for united action on border protection after Ceuta mass crossing
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for united EU action on border protection after last week's mass crossing in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa. The crisis has fuelled anti-immigrant rhetoric among right-wing European politicians and stoked diplomatic tensions between Spain and some EU members, notably Italy. An emergency video conference of EU interior ministers is scheduled for August 3 at Rome's request.
