Drying Danube threatens energy supply — and Poland could feel the impact
A severe drought in the Balkans has lowered the Danube river to levels that are hampering power plant operations in Hungary, Romania and Serbia, creating tensions in the regional energy market. Because of electricity grid interconnections, disruptions in those countries could push up power prices and reduce supply stability in Poland as well. Researchers warn the situation could become critical in the coming days.
