Fecal microbiota transplant may improve sleep in insomnia patients

A small study published July 22 in the Journal of Internal Medicine found that fecal microbiota transplants (FMT) may help adults with chronic insomnia sleep better. Participants showed increased gut bacteria diversity and higher sleep efficiency after the procedure. If confirmed by larger studies, FMT could join sleeping pills and cognitive behavioral therapy as a treatment for insomnia, researchers say.
