Trump seeks to strip citizens of the right to sue polluters in court
The Trump administration is seeking to curtail "citizen suit provisions" embedded in major environmental laws including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act. These provisions, used in over 2,000 lawsuits since the 1970s, allow ordinary citizens and advocacy groups to sue companies for environmental violations when the government fails to act. Removing them would leave environmental enforcement solely in the hands of the executive branch.
