Giant plasma waves from solar wind are stripping away Mars' atmosphere
Data from the MAVEN and Tianwen-1 probes reveals that the solar wind creates giant rolling waves along Mars' outer atmosphere, forming plasma clouds that carry atmospheric particles into space. The process is concentrated on one side of the planet and may have been a key driver of Mars losing its water and becoming uninhabitable over billions of years.
