Wolfsbane and larkspur toxins could inspire powerful new medicines, scientists find

Scientists have discovered how two famously poisonous plants — wolfsbane and larkspur — produce chemicals with surprising medical potential. By tracking thousands of genes, the team identified six enzymes needed to build a complex compound called atisinium. They recreated the biosynthetic process in tobacco plants, potentially enabling sustainable production of these rare molecules for drug development.
