Plane crashes over Nazca Lines — 13 dead including 11 European tourists
On 1 August, a plane operated by Peruvian company Aerodiana crashed during a sightseeing flight over the Nazca Lines near Pueblo Viejo, about 6 km from the city of Nazca. The aircraft took off from Pisco airport and lost radio contact shortly after departure before catching fire on impact. All 13 people on board were killed — 11 tourists from Italy, Germany and Spain, and two crew members.
