53°C in Florence: Italy issues red heat alert in 25 of its 27 largest cities

Italy's fourth extreme heat wave of the year peaked on Monday. For the first time, the Italian Ministry of Health issued top-level red alerts in 25 of the country's 27 largest cities, with Florence recording a perceived temperature of 53°C.
