ADHD in women ignored for decades — why doctors missed it for so long
For decades, the clinical model of ADHD was built almost exclusively on observations of hyperactive boys, leaving women with the condition undiagnosed and suffering in silence. Girls tend to mask symptoms differently from boys, which made recognition far harder. Today, growing numbers of adult women are receiving belated diagnoses as awareness of female-specific ADHD patterns slowly increases.
