China builds world's largest superconducting magnet for nuclear fusion research

China has announced the completion of the world's largest superconducting magnet for nuclear fusion research. The 582-tonne device was built by the Institute of Plasma Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is designed to stably confine extremely hot plasma, bringing China closer to achieving practical fusion energy.
