Mysterious Milky Way object accelerates protons beyond one quadrillion electron volts

Scientists have identified the object LHAASO J1912+1014u as a cosmic particle accelerator capable of pushing protons beyond one quadrillion electron volts (1 PeV). The discovery may help reveal the origin of the Milky Way's most energetic cosmic rays and shed light on how they influence the galaxy.
