Dark matter may carry a hidden force — and its effects are the opposite of what physicists expected
New research suggests that dark matter particles may exert a hidden force on one another. While the extra attraction helps particles cluster, it also makes dark matter effectively lighter as the Universe expands. This weakens its gravitational impact and tends to slow the growth of cosmic structure rather than accelerate it — the opposite of what scientists had expected.
