Hungary's sole nuclear plant Paks shuts down as Danube dries up
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced the complete shutdown of the Paks nuclear power plant — the country's only one — after the Danube dried up sufficiently to cut off its cooling water supply. It is the first time in the plant's history that it has halted production entirely, and the outage could last several weeks. The drought striking southern Europe is now affecting critical energy infrastructure.
