Hamas disarmament plan offers rare hope but faces enormous hurdles

A proposal for Hamas to disarm as part of a Gaza ceasefire deal has raised cautious hope, but faces massive obstacles including zero trust between the parties, thousands of deaths and widespread destruction. The political realities on both sides make any final agreement extremely complicated. Analysts nonetheless see the plan as a rare opening for an end to the fighting.
