Leaving water in sodium-ion batteries nearly doubles their power

Researchers at the University of Surrey found that leaving naturally occurring water inside sodium vanadium oxide electrode material — instead of removing it during manufacturing — nearly doubles the battery's power output. The finding could accelerate the development of cheaper alternatives to lithium-ion batteries. The technology also holds potential for producing drinking water from seawater as a by-product.
