New process turns plastic waste into clean hydrogen, trapping the carbon

A new chemical process converts three of the most common plastics into high-purity hydrogen without pre-sorting them. The technique operates at much lower temperatures than conventional gasification. Most of the carbon from the plastic is captured in solid or liquid form rather than released as carbon dioxide.
