New alloy is 6–10 times stronger than steel and surprisingly flexible

Engineers have transformed a brittle cobalt-aluminium compound into a material with a yield strength six to ten times greater than high-strength structural steel. Its nanoscale architecture allows it to deform substantially at room temperature without fracturing. The material could be used in tougher turbine blades and higher-performance engines.
