Black holes expel nearly as much matter as they swallow, new study finds
Observations of a black hole during a dramatic 2023 eruption revealed that it did not simply consume gas from a companion star — it also expelled large quantities of material through powerful jets and winds. Remarkably, this expulsion continued even after the outburst had nearly faded. The findings suggest black holes may keep reshaping their surroundings long after their most spectacular activity ends.
