Nirmal Purja killed in Broad Peak avalanche along with 9 others

Legendary Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Nimsdai Purja has been killed in an avalanche on Broad Peak. He was renowned for completing the first winter ascent of K2 and for summiting all 14 eight-thousanders in a record 189 days. A total of 10 people died in the avalanche. Expedition organizers confirmed his death, calling him one of the greatest mountaineers of all time.
