Gironde wildfire contained after 9 days — 42,000 hectares burned

France's Interior Minister confirmed that the wildfire in the Gironde region has been brought under control, meaning the flames are no longer spreading. Over nine days, the fire burned approximately 42,000 hectares. The blaze had previously been uncontrolled and posed a serious threat to nearby communities.
