Harriman and Kerr: the diplomats who forged the anti-Hitler coalition after 1941

When Germany attacked the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, Churchill immediately offered Stalin support, famously saying he would speak well of the devil in the Commons if Hitler invaded hell. Roosevelt remained cautious until the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 completed the formation of the Allied coalition. Diplomats Averell Harriman and Archie Kerr played a key role in building and maintaining that alliance.
