Brazilian HIV advocates: we saw USAID cuts coming years ago
At the Aids 2026 conference in Rio de Janeiro, advocates from Brazilian HIV NGO Gestos said they had long foreseen a dramatic reduction in donor funding. Brazil built its HIV health system independently of foreign aid, giving it resilience that many other nations lack. Political liaison coordinator Juliana Cesar called on other countries to prioritise financial independence from donors like USAID before such cuts occur.
