How the great powers viewed the Warsaw Uprising: Berlin, Moscow, London and Washington

On 1 August 1944, Warsaw rose in the middle of a great-power struggle. For Germany it was a pretext for the city's destruction; for the USSR it was a chance to eliminate an independent Poland; for the Western Allies it was an awkward problem threatening to rupture the alliance with Stalin. Each power had its own reason to let Warsaw fight and die alone.
