Weak seed generation led to $70M Bitcoin cold wallet theft — no device access needed

Galaxy Research revealed that an attacker stole over 1,000 BTC — worth around $70 million — from nearly 1,200 cold wallets without ever touching the devices. The vulnerability stemmed from weak seed generation, which allowed the attacker to recreate likely private keys entirely offline. More than 1,200 wallets were swept in the attack, and the search is believed to be ongoing.
