Cats fried in suntan oil — what Warsaw's fighters ate to survive the Uprising
During the Warsaw Uprising, starvation forced residents to eat cats, horses and grain salvaged from burning granaries. General Bór-Komorowski's aides once fried a cat in suntan oil and served it as rabbit. Civilians and soldiers scavenged food from rubble, gardens and cellars, cooking soup from almost anything they could find.
