Why not every smoker gets lung cancer — inherited genes are key, study in Nature finds
An international study published in the journal Nature has found that inherited genes play a key role in determining whether exposure to tobacco smoke or UV radiation leads to cancer. The genes influence not only the risk of a tumour developing after DNA damage, but also how the tumour grows and how patients respond to treatment. The findings could pave the way for more personalised cancer prevention and therapy.
