Oxford study: free-range eggs produce nearly twice the greenhouse gas emissions of caged eggs
Researchers at the University of Oxford found that organic free-range egg production generates nearly twice as many greenhouse gas emissions as cage farming. The scientists stress they measured only the carbon footprint of production, not other environmental factors such as animal welfare or land use. The findings may surprise consumers who choose free-range eggs believing them to be more eco-friendly.
