Seagate's 50TB hard drives won't arrive until around 2029 — years behind schedule

Seagate has confirmed its Mozaic 5+ platform, offering 5TB per disk, is on track for qualification shipments in late 2027, pushing 50TB-class drives to 2028 at the earliest and likely 2029 for retail buyers. The original roadmap had targeted 2026 for 50TB capacity. OEM and hyperscaler validation adds months to a year of additional delay, with most high-capacity storage already allocated under long-term contracts.
