Google Earth's AI image generator produces fake satellite photos of refugee camps and bomb craters
Researcher Henk van Ess of Digital Digging demonstrated that Google Earth's built-in AI image generator can produce convincingly realistic but entirely fabricated satellite images, including scenes of "refugees near the Mexican border" and a bomb crater next to a hospital in Gaza. The images are generated simply by entering a text prompt using real satellite, aerial and 3D imagery from Google Earth. Google responded to the findings, though the tool continues to raise serious concerns about disinformation potential.
